This typically occurs when a new tune is incorporated into a player's repertoire; after spending hours rehearsing said tune one becomes obsessed with the melody and is unable to keep the fingers from going there anytime an instrument is picked up. Other symptoms include humming the tune in the shower, car or office, along with the irrepressible urge to play it more than once in a given seisiún. Symptoms are typically short-lived for that tune; however, the time between episodes may be even shorter. Frequency of outbreaks has been found to be directly proportionate to the number of seisiúns one attends, as well as the number of Irish tunes found in one's mp3 player or CD collection.
